Faith Art Galleries

New Art Gallery Exhibit:
The Watercolor Artistry of Mickey Wendorf
Long-time Faith member Mickey Wendorf says art has been part of her life since her age was “in single digits.” Following the lead of her mother, who was also a gifted artist, Mickey was inspired to take art classes in high school and ultimately graduated from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, with an art major and math minor.
If you love watercolors like I do, then make it your mission to visit the Faith Gallery between March 30 and June 4 to enjoy Mickey’s beautiful collection of paintings! “Painting has been a patchy, on again, off again, pursuit for my entire life,” she says, adding that various craft projects provided a creative outlet “when I did not have the time or space to paint pictures.”
Much of Mickey’s work with watercolors has an element of wet-in-wet, which means the artist cannot let the paint dry until the work is ready for any smaller, hard-edged details. She explains that this requires the artist to have a sufficient, uninterrupted period of time to paint and watch what the paint does as it blends and moves around and begins to become less fluid.
Meet the Artist
On April 6, you can learn more about Mickey’s watercolor painting process by attending her special demonstration during Adult Forum in Luther Hall. Following the demonstration, everyone is invited to join Mickey upstairs in the Faith Gallery for Q & A and refreshments.
Mickey says she hopes people will have a chance to visit her exhibit before attending “Meet the Artist” on the 6th. “Think about what seems to inspire what I have done. If you are familiar with others who paint in watercolor, how is what I do similar? How is it different? What did you like? Not like? I am not enthralled by every piece of my work. That’s why I paint the same subject more than once!” Mickey welcomes all attendees to share their thoughts for a lively discussion!
See you there!
Experience the Joy of Rainbow’s Tiny Artists in Center Gallery
If you’re looking for the Center Gallery, don’t let the coat rack throw you off the trail! Tucked neatly behind the rack is the gallery, which currently features artwork by and photos of the Rainbow Place preschoolers. There’s nothing more uplifting! According to Rainbow Place Director Eileen Glynn, “When parents were asked what their children loved about Rainbow we heard: ‘Loves to do art! Loves dress-up! Loves that their teacher tells them interesting facts! Loves being with friends! Loves dancing to music! Loves listening to stories the teacher shares!’ Pop by the Center Gallery to see that love displayed in the photos that capture the essence and experiences of Rainbow Place!”
Rainbow will be featured in the gallery through April, followed by ESSE Center from May through August. Enjoy!
Artists Welcome!
If you are an artist, or know an artist, who would be interested in exhibiting in the Faith Gallery, please contact me or Pr. Shelly. We’d love to hear from you!
