New Gallery Exhibit: Origin Stories
Are You Smarter than a Confirmand?
If you’d like to find out, then don’t miss a very special “Meet the Artists” during the April 7 Adult Forum in Luther Hall followed by the opening of the Faith Art Gallery’s new exhibit titled Origin Stories. Sunday morning Confirmation Forum leaders Tom Zima and Tom Heidrich, along with a number of the artistic confirmands responsible for Origin Stories, have a fun and engaging Bible challenge planned, based on their artwork. But more on that in a moment…
“Year after year, Faith is fortunate to have confirmation classes filled with extraordinary youth,” Zima said. “This year we have a class that is gifted artistically, as well as in many other ways.”
While confirmation class meets on Wednesday evenings, on Sunday mornings interested confirmands gather with group leaders Zima and Heidrich in a forum format to explore life, the universe, and a host of other topics through scripture, prayer, fellowship, and art.
“One of the things we realized in our discussions was how much this group in class enjoyed being able to engage with the lessons and stories through art, and there are so many great scenes in the Pentateuch,” Heidrich explained. The Greek word Pentateuch means “five books” and refers to the first five books of the Bible: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, and Deuteronomy. “So 11 Sunday morning confirmands each chose a story from one of those books of the Bible and created their own original art depicting a pivotal moment in their story.”
The result is Origin Stories, an art exhibit based on the Pentateuch.
