It’s hard to believe that this will be my last message to the congregation regarding the Call Committee’s search for an associate pastor. But as the saying goes: “All’s well that ends well!” Thanks be to God for giving the committee, staff, Council, and congregation the collective determination, inspiration, patience, and courage to achieve this wonderful result!
On Sunday, June 25, the work of the call committee officially concluded with the Congregation Meeting during which the members in attendance voted to call Pr. Julie Peterson to be our new associate pastor by the following vote:
124 yes
0 no
1 abstention
The church was packed, and an exhilaratingly positive vibe permeated the building. Present to welcome the congregation was the committee’s synod liaison, Pr. Sunitha Mortha, Associate to the Bishop and Director of Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging, whose support of the committee throughout the call process was invaluable. When the final vote tally was announced, the membership burst into loud, spontaneous applause. The Congregation Meeting, of course, followed on the heels of the Meet & Greet with Pr. Julie, her husband Andrew, and their daughters Junia (2 ½) and Maisie (5 months), in the Gathering Place just five days prior. More than 150 members turned out for that joyous event.
And now the fun begins for Pr. Julie and her family: house hunting, packing, uprooting, settling in a new home, and getting acclimated to new roles. These are exciting and exhausting times for the Petersons, but their Faith family is here to support and welcome them to Faith in August.
Wishing everyone a safe and wonderful summer.
Sincerely, Chris Bettin On behalf of the Call Committee
Meet Your Call Committee At the July Church Council meeting, the members of the Call Committee were approved. I am honored, excited, and a tad wistful to have been chosen as the one to chair this wonderful group of members from our congregation—wistful in the sense that, having served on Pr. Joe’s Intern Committee many years ago, I am now part of the committee seeking his replacement!
Members of our Faith family who have agreed to join me in this endeavor are Bob Hawkinson, Paula Ortmann, Dave Jenz, Kristin Schwallie, Kathy Dibadj (alternate member), and Jack Bair (student member). As a group, we are motivated by the challenge before us—to fill the awfully big shoes of Pr. Joe—and determined to get the job done effectively, efficiently, and expediently. We know finding the right fit for Faith’s associate pastor is of the utmost importance to you, the members of Faith, and also to the Council, Pr. Shelly, and the staff, so we—the committee—are counting on your input, interest, and involvement to lift us up during this undertaking.
