Stories of Triumph and Inspiration
We Never Felt Alone!
We are some of the lucky ones! Some might disagree, as we both fell victim to the Corona virus, and had to endure a total of 6 weeks of isolation. The first 3 weeks were due to one of us bringing the virus home, and the second 3 were due to it getting passed on to the other one.
So, why are we “the lucky ones”? Our first thought was—we each had a mild case, which we were able to overcome fairly quickly, and did not require hospitalization. But now that we are both breathing a deep sigh of relief, we’re able to reflect in appreciation on the many instances of kindness from family, friends, neighbors, and even some strangers. So many good wishes came our way - some by phone, some by email or text, and some as beautiful greeting cards! We never felt alone!
There were the many kind offers from neighbors to run errands, and their friendly waves from across the street, as we sat in the driveway for fresh air. There was the patient “insta-cart” lady at Pete’s Market, who would make sure that the items on our grocery list were matched as closely as possible. There were the surprise packages, “gifts for the soul”, those small items that lift the spirit. And of course, greatly appreciated were the numerous meals, which never sat in the frig or pantry for long.
In fact, one meal gave us a moment’s pause. It was the tortilla soup dinner provided by the wonderful ladies of Sarah Circle, and delivered by Pastor Shelly. Bob had just gotten back his sense of taste the day before, and decided he wanted chicken tortilla soup for dinner that evening. But a call to “Chicks ’n Salsa” proved disappointing, as it was Sunday, the one day on which they are closed! We don’t recall what we ate that evening, but imagine our reaction, when we found that very dinner on our front porch the next day!
Yes, we are the “lucky ones”—lucky to have had a chance to witness the spirit of Christ in action through the hands of family, friends, neighbors, and the caring community of Faith!
In gratitude,
Bob and Sylvia Wulffen
